For Once I Was Lost, But Now I Am Found:

One of my favorite verses in the bible is Jeremiah 29:11. It states: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

When I was younger, I took it in a more literal translation, thinking that God would let me know everything about myself and what my purpose was by the time I graduated high school. Wow, was I completely wrong. I knew absolutely nothing about myself, or who God wanted me to be and I felt like I was floating along in the universe with no direction and no purpose. I just felt lost.

But, as I was laying in bed one night reading my favorite verse; I was praying that God would show me who I was and what I was supposed to do. And then it happened; He spoke. He told me to read further, and I am so grateful that I did.

If you would do me the honor, I would like to do as God asked me to do then, and read a little further. Jeremiah 29:12-14 states: "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the Lord, " and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." (NIV)

These few verses hit me hard that night and have stuck with me ever since. To me, it says that I needed to keep talking and to keep praying. Then, and only then, would He reveal my path.

It meant that if I put him first, and seek him with all my heart that I would find him. I would find Him in every step and in every decision I made. He would direct my path, and finally, He would take all of the pieces of myself that were broken and lost and unknown to me, and He would bring them back together. He would find what was lost and reveal what was unknown and make me whole. He would show me that His plans are good for me, giving me hope and a good future. Plans to prosper me and to help me to know who I fully am to Him and what I mean to Him.

God loves me, I am the apple of his eye and I want you to know that He feels the same way about you. So keep praying and keep seeking. On the days that you feel lost or alone or broken, know that He is right there with you. He is guiding your steps and leading you to a brighter and better future. One that is prosperous and filled with hope and love. You once were lost but now you are found, filled, free and whole, Jesus name, Amen.
