The Lamp On My Feet To Light Up My Path:

My daily verse this morning was Psalms 119:105. It states "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." I love this verse, every time I read it, I can picture me physically walking down a small and narrow dirt path. I see me walking through a dark, dense forest, with an old 1900s lantern and everything around me is dark, except the shadows of tall trees.

But, as I look down at my feet, I see the path more clearly. It is worn down and has roots sticking up from each side. But in this, I can also see where others have walked this path before, dodging each root just as carefully as I am trying to do now.

At first, I am scared that I will trip and fall over one of these roots, because there are many; and if I look away from the lantern out into the forest, the clear path becomes a blur and I start stumbling, feeling lost. But then, I look back down towards my feet and the path, and under the lantern's light, and I feel safe. Under the light of this lantern, I can find my sure footing once again.

In fact, following the light of my lantern, I start moving; with slow and steady steps. And in those moments, after I have taken another step around a root, I glance up, and I see Him. I see Jesus walking in front of me and glancing back with his hand held out in my direction, telling me that it is okay, and that it is time to take another step.

Jesus stated in the Bible that "narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. He also states that " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

After reading my morning verse, and picturing these moments in it, I realized that we, as Christians, all have to take this path. That Peter, Paul, David, and and everyone else that God has written into His word, has taken this path. God has given us the lantern (Jesus), to follow and to focus on, and that as long as we keep our eyes on Him our paths will be clear and our pace will be set.

We can take slow, steady, and surefooted, steps. We can walk this narrow path, with Jesus guiding and leading our way, lighting up the darkness. We can see him looking back at us, and telling us that it is okay and that it is time to take another step forward.

We can see that we are one step closer to meeting our heavenly Father. The only one who truly loves us and accepts ALL of our mess.
